Here’s a very simple way to avoid commercials and pop-ups in internet explorer with no installation what so ever, or any pop-up blockers programs. All you have to do is to replace your hosts file (located in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc) with the one that can be downloaded here.

This file consists of thousands of IP addresses of the largest advertisements companies. What this file does, without getting dirty with technical networking details, is telling your internet browser, of any kind, to present DNS error instead of the ad coming from the IP addresses on this list. After you’ll replace the file, surfing eBay, Amazon and WSJ will never be the same.
