A really great tweak for IE7. Just make a little .reg file and run it; next time you’ll load internet explorer 7, you’ll see the file menu on top of th explorer window (beneath the “e” icon and the the text near it).

See how to do it on this post from Unhandled Perception blog.

View pictures in Outlook 2000 and XP

This is a really simple macro tool you can build to do it.

  1. Download this text file an open it.
  2. Copy the text in the file.
  3. Open Outlook, press on alt+F11.
  4. Paste the text. Press on ctrl+s.
  5. Press on alt+q.
  6. That’s it.

Now, when ever you have an email with a lot of pictures attached to it just apply this macro. To assign an icon in the toolbar to this macro, just right-click anywhere in the toolbar, choose customize, and then click the commands tab. In the categories list, click macros. Find your macro in the commands list, then click and drag it to a toolbar. Right click on it to change it’s name and icon.

Hack your body with LifeHacker’s best tips

Avoid spam by replacing your hosts file

Here’s a very simple way to avoid commercials and pop-ups in internet explorer with no installation what so ever, or any pop-up blockers programs. All you have to do is to replace your hosts file (located in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc) with the one that can be downloaded here.

This file consists of thousands of IP addresses of the largest advertisements companies. What this file does, without getting dirty with technical networking details, is telling your internet browser, of any kind, to present DNS error instead of the ad coming from the IP addresses on this list. After you’ll replace the file, surfing eBay, Amazon and WSJ will never be the same.
